B is for Bernini
"The note indicated that the famous Bernini sculpture, The Ecstasy of St Teresa, shortly after its unveiling, had been moved from its original location inside the Vatican . . . Pope Urban VIII had rejected The Ecstasy of St Teresa as too sexually explicit for the Vatican. He had banished it to some obscure chapel across town."

Too sexually explicit? You think? :D :D I saw this in Rome one time I visited, and it is a pretty steamy image.
ReplyDeleteCool theme!

Interesting about this statue. If museums removed sexually explicit pieces, there wouldn't be many left. Great theme for the challenge.
ReplyDeleteWas one of the ways the artists forced to work for the church got back at the Pope.
ReplyDeleteInteresting theme. I've only read one of his books, so I'll find out more about him and his work here. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHello! Followed you from my blog. I love your concept and look forward to reading more. Cheers!
